OpenAI API adds self-serve HIPAA compliance support so eligible organizations can accept a standard BAA in settings

What changed

OpenAI marked self-serve HIPAA compliance support for API organizations generally available on October 5. Eligible organization admins can accept the standard Business Associate Agreement (BAA) directly in API Organization Settings > General and enable HIPAA compliance support without first holding an enterprise agreement. OpenAI's help documentation says self-serve enrollment requires an established API usage history; organizations that are not yet eligible will see that status, while customers needing custom BAA terms can still contact OpenAI. This is an API-organization compliance workflow and should not be interpreted as blanket HIPAA coverage for every OpenAI product or API capability.
