What changed

Sierra announced Personal Agent Protocol (PAP) on October 6, an open standard being developed by Meta and Sierra with partners including Genesys, Instinct, Rocket, Shopify, Stripe and Walmart. The design lets businesses recognize personal agents and control how they interact with websites, APIs or company agents within consumer-granted permissions. Sessions use OAuth, while API routes can build on standards such as MCP and OpenAPI, and consumers can choose read-only or write access. The announcement describes the direction and mechanics of the standard rather than a finished specification: Sierra says the v0.1 specification and a reference implementation are planned for later this month.
